Our Voice / Notre Voix

Since 1987, Our Voice / Notre Voix has played a central role in advancing the perspectives, interests and causes of psychiatrized people. In the words of its Publisher and Editor, Eugene LeBlanc, Our Voice / Notre Voix is “a mental health magazine from New Brunswick, Canada whose purpose is to promote the viewpoints of those having psychiatric contents in their lives. This initiative is a means for us to enhance empowerment and reinforce solidarity within our community.”

With the kind permission of Mr. LeBlanc, we are providing links to the home page of this widely-read and important publication, and to the remarkable on-line archive of back issues of the magazine that are available on the Our Voice / Notre Voix website.

Educators, activists and researchers will find this collection to be a precious reserve of contributions on mental health issues — and on social justice concerns more generally — written from the standpoint of the psychiatrized in both French and English languages, from the 1980s to the present.

Quoting from the OV/NV “Welcome” page:

“Our Voice is a publication that promotes the viewpoints of those having psychiatric experiences. Its purpose is to provide opportunities for individuals to express their opinions on mental health and illness issues via articles, poetry or humor. Through this medium, we hope to educate those with an open mind on our challenges and also propose solutions which are better tailored to our reality. We also provide vocational opportunities in the field of research, writing, production and distribution to many having a mental illness in New Brunswick and elsewhere.”
